UFFIZI GALLERY

The Uffizi Gallery (3 hours)

The most visited museum in Italy: an obligatory stop

The tour is a must-do activity in Florence, whatever the time you want to spend at the Museum.

How to deal with such a large museum

In order to visit the Gallery in the most effective way, a guide is recommended, because of the high number of paintings versus the average time available for tourists. This tour can be tailored to the needs of visitors, according to their age (kids or adults), mobility, subject of interest (artistic movements or style) and their level of involvement. You don't have 3 hours to visit the Uffizi? Just contact me and ask for a shorter tour.

Some information about the Uffizi Gallery:

If you're wondering why the Museum is so popular, the reason is that it was the first museum in the world, as it was established by Francesco I de' Medici, Duke of Florence, on the year 1581. Francesco I dedicated an empty floor of the Offices (Uffizi) to a huge ancient art collection. After a while the entire Uffizi building lost its previous political and administrative purpose and became the place where the Medici established their social rank as patrons of the arts, and impressed their guests by showing an unbelievable concentration of masterpieces. Then, under the Lorenese the Uffizi later became a proper museum, as the art collections were open to the public instead of being shown only to guests of the Lorena Family.

What range of time does the Museum cover?

We will retrace the main chapters of art history between the thirteenth and seventeenth centuries by looking at the paintings in the chronological order of the Museum and we will also consider the history of the Medici Family, as first owners of the collection and governors of Tuscany until the early eighteenth century.

What will we see? Enchanted by the eclectic style of the ceilings and the Tribuna designed by Bernardo Buontalenti, we will discover very interesting connections between ancient Greek and Roman art and the fifteenth century masterpieces.

If you loved the Tribuna, Pitti Palace will leave you speachless! Book a tour!

The Uffizi provides a clear explanation of Italian art from late Romanesque to Baroque, and covers four centuries from the thirteenth and the seventeenth ones. You will be led through the overwhelming collection, and helped to focus on the highlights, or, if you prefer, you will hear a more in-dept artistic analysis of specific ages or artistic subjects. Following the chronology, we will start from Giotto and end at Rembrandt, and we will see works from Raffaello Sanzio, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Artemisia Gentileschi and Rubens. This is just a short list of the many important artists whose works are exhibited at the Uffizi Gallery.
